The need to conserve forestry resources is increasingly becoming a topical issue in most countries of the world.In Nigeria the government and rural communities in the control and exploitation offorest resources use several measures.This study assessed the effectiveness of these measures inforestry management.
The study was conducted in Ugwuoba click here (Enugu State) and Ndiukwuenu (Anambra State).A sample size of 100 respondents was usedfor the study.Data were collected with a structured interview schedule and were analysed using percentages and rating score.
Results of the study show that some of the regulatory measures were perceived to be effective and many traditional measures were perceived to be more effective than the government measures.The study therefore, advocates institutional networking, here a collaborative approach toforestry control and exploitation.By this approach, important local/inargenous measures are identified andbuilt into government measuresfor maximum result.
Extension agents canfacilitate this process through community mobilizationfor social actionprocess.
